Using Ramadan to set good habits and goals

We would like to wish you and your loved ones Ramadan Kareem! May the holy month of Ramadan shower you with the best blessings and bring you eternal joy.

As we’ve entered the holy month of Ramadan we thought it would be good to provide a few useful tips to set good habits. Ramadan is often a time of reflection, devotion, and giving back to the community and we think it is also a great time to set good habits and goals for not just this month but also for the rest of the year.

Some healthy habits that are good to keep in mind and actively do for Ramadan (but even after this month):

  • Staying hydrated.
  • Eating a healthy and balanced diet (which is all the more important when fasting).
  • Getting a full night’s rest.

Setting some time aside to reflect is important. If you can take a few moments in your day to think of how you are thankful for your blessings, how you treated others, and how you are feeling (mental health is important too) it will make you feel more grounded.

You can also take this month to set good goals that you think are achievable. Something simple, for example, such as being active for half an hour every day will benefit your life as a whole. The goals you decide to set could be specific to Ramadan but some could also be applicable following the holy month too.

Here are a few goals you can set for the month of Ramadan:

  • Attempting to read a surah a day.
  • Setting some money aside every day to give sadaqah at the end of the month.
  • Volunteering at a food bank or at a local mosque to help the needy.
  • Setting some time aside to spend quality time with your loved ones.

All of these goals can be continued long after Ramadan too. In order to keep you motivated to successfully complete a goal you should make them realistic to your lifestyle. That will make you more likely to also keep going at your goal and habits that you began.
